ZERO LABEL

Alphenberg’s ZERO LABEL. Naturally sustainable…

Alphenberg’s zero label stands for sustainability: leather according to today’s standards and wishes!

Leather in the interior is extremely stylish. It has a luxurious appearance and is unique in every way. And it is a logical choice for us to use leather in the most sustainable way possible in your interior. That is why we have created the ZERO LABEL with all partners involved.

A label that is only awarded by us when the product meets the highest and most current standards of sustainability. Which includes the way we create the leather, how it comes into being, but also how we deal with the leather and its trim residues.

When do we use our zero label?

The leather we use complies with many regulations when it comes to sustainability. Leather is a by-product to begin with. Cattle are not bred for their hides. That is already an important aspect. And yet there is always room for improvement. In addition to the regular processing of leather, we have also developed a method with an even higher standard. This collection we carry with the ZERO LABEL.

A classic technique in a brand-new version.

Leather with our ZERO label

Chrome-free Dutch calf leather is the basis for this sustainable collection.

Not only the look and feel is exceptionally stylish, but what is just as important is that it meets the highest and most current standards of sustainability. Zero is available in four unique characters, each in eight beautiful colors. The ZERO collection is characterized by a fine grain and a velvety suppleness.

BRAID

A classic technique in a brand-new version.

A wonderful example of a recent development is “weave-pattern”. An age-old technique and in the way how people respond to it we see that most of them have come across it before. Weave-pattern feels familiar and yet we have managed to transform it into a completely new concept.

An extremely fine use of this small tile creates an unparalleled color pattern. The tiles are 3 x 3 cm and have slightly rounded corners. A surprising variant on the tile that is so familiar to us, but with a special chic and exclusive look. Every centimeter of leather is used in this way.

Now what’s the difference from the standard collection?

The leather for our ZERO LABEL collection comes from young Dutch cattle. Our purchasing takes place in a completely transparent manner. Namely through a company that has made the entire history traceable per skin. The animals grazed on Dutch pastureland, maintaining our national landscape according to the strict standards of the ‘Beter-leven-label’. The entire process takes place on Dutch soil, so that transport and therefore CO2 emissions are kept to a minimum.

Zero applies to the entire creating process

The modern tanning process, where chromium-free is the key word, complies with current guidelines. It ensures a lesser burden on the environment but on top of that, it has the positive side effect of intensifying the colors. Worth mentioning is, contrary to the traditional process, the hides are now ‘air-dried’, which as a nice benefit, turns out to be significantly energy cost-cutting. An additional, but certainly not unimported, advantage of this drying process is the enhancement of the specific character of leather. A minimal finish makes the distinctive grain of every individual hide stand out. Compared to the traditional method, this new way of processing saves up to 80% on energy costs and chemicals used. The top finish is ‘Eco’ and is based on natural extracts and is GOTS certified.

Optimization of use per skin

In addition to focusing on the skin’s manufacturing process for our ZERO LABEL, we also include an optimization program. The fact is, that after processing the hides for interior applications, for example floors and walls, residual material also remains. The wonderful outcome, that completely new and high-quality products can subsequently be made from this, is more than something special. It simply adds sustainability.
